SMS Deliverability
Also written: text message deliverability, SMS delivery rate
Quick answer
What is SMS deliverability?
SMS deliverability is the proportion of sent text messages that actually arrive on the recipient's handset. Carriers filter messages independently of the sending platform, so registration status, message content, sending volume and complaint rates all affect whether a message is delivered or silently dropped.
The dangerous property of SMS filtering is that it is silent. Your platform reports the message as sent. The carrier dropped it. Nobody finds out until someone asks why a campaign produced nothing.
What actually decides delivery
Registration. In the United States, application-to-person traffic on standard 10-digit numbers must be registered under A2P 10DLC. Unregistered traffic is heavily filtered or blocked outright. See the Twilio A2P 10DLC documentation for how registration and trust scores work.
Content. Public URL shorteners are a common filtering trigger because they are shared with spam traffic. A branded link domain does not have that history.
Pattern. Volume that appears from nothing, identical message bodies at scale, and high opt-out or complaint rates all degrade the sending reputation attached to your number.
Consent. Beyond being a legal requirement in most markets, messaging people who did not opt in produces exactly the complaint signal carriers filter on.
Diagnosing it
Delivery receipts distinguish sent from delivered. If your platform reports high send and low delivery, the problem is carrier-side and no amount of copy editing fixes it.
Start with registration status, then link domains, then sending pattern — in that order, because that is roughly the order of impact.

Get your business texting approved before it costs you leads
A2P 10DLC is the registration system US carriers require for application-to-person messaging over standard 10-digit numbers. It involves registering your brand and each messaging campaign. Without approved registration, messages to US numbers are heavily filtered or blocked outright, so it is mandatory rather than optional for US SMS.
Make sure the messages you automate actually arrive
Automated messages fail to deliver most often because the sending domain is not authenticated with SPF, DKIM and DMARC records, because a new sending domain or number was used at high volume without warm-up, because sender reputation has been damaged by complaints, or because required carrier registration was never completed.
Fix the thing that stopped working
GoHighLevel automations commonly stop working because a trigger condition changed, an integration disconnected or its credentials expired, a required field was renamed, messaging delivery was blocked by missing compliance registration, or another workflow is exiting contacts before the sequence completes.
