Messaging compliance
Get your business texting approved before it costs you leads
A2P 10DLC is the step that silently breaks more GoHighLevel launches than anything else. Not because it is difficult, but because it is slow and nobody starts it early enough.
Quick answer
What is A2P 10DLC and do I need it?
A2P 10DLC is the registration system US carriers require for application-to-person messaging over standard 10-digit numbers. It involves registering your brand and each messaging campaign. Without approved registration, messages to US numbers are heavily filtered or blocked outright, so it is mandatory rather than optional for US SMS.
The problem
What this actually fixes
Your appointment reminders stopped delivering and nobody knows why.
The registration was submitted and rejected, and the rejection reason is opaque.
Nobody started the process until launch week, and now the launch is waiting on carriers.
Message volume is being throttled below what your campaigns need.
You have multiple brands or client sub-accounts and each needs separate registration.
The campaign use case was described wrongly and the whole submission bounced.
Scope
What's included
Every engagement is scoped to what you actually need. This is the full deliverable list.
Deliverable 01
Brand registration
Business identity submitted with the documentation carriers expect, correctly the first time where possible.
Deliverable 02
Campaign registration
Each messaging use case registered with an accurate description and sample messages that match what you will actually send.
Deliverable 03
Use case classification
Getting the campaign type right, which is the most common cause of rejection and the most avoidable.
Deliverable 04
Rejection handling
Where a submission is rejected, diagnosing the actual reason and resubmitting. This is included rather than billed again.
Deliverable 05
Number provisioning and association
Numbers acquired and correctly linked to the approved campaign, which is a step people frequently miss.
Deliverable 06
Throughput review
Checking the approved throughput matches your intended sending volume, before you discover it does not.
How it works
From first call to running system
- Step
Gather documentation
Day 1Business registration details, EIN or equivalent, website and contact information. We start this immediately because everything else waits on it.
- Step
Submit brand
Brand registration filed with accurate details matching your public business records.
- Step
Submit campaigns
Each use case registered separately with sample messages consistent with your actual sequences.
- Step
Track and resubmit
Monitoring through carrier review, handling any rejection, and confirming numbers are associated on approval.
Use cases
Where this earns its keep
New GoHighLevel account
Registration started on day one so it is not the thing delaying your launch.
Messages not delivering
Diagnosing whether unregistered or misregistered messaging is the cause of poor delivery.
Agency client sub-accounts
Registration per client brand, which is the timeline constraint on agency onboarding.
Start it on day one
There is one piece of advice on this page that matters and it is entirely unglamorous.
Submit the registration before you build anything. Not after the workflows are done, not during launch week — on day one, before the interesting work starts.
Carrier review is the only part of a GoHighLevel project whose timeline you cannot influence. Everything else can be compressed by working harder. This cannot. Sequencing it first costs nothing and removes the most common reason launches slip.
Questions
A2P 10DLC Registration — common questions
How long does A2P 10DLC registration take?
Anywhere from a few days to a couple of weeks. Carriers review it and the timeline is genuinely outside our control or anyone else's. Any provider promising a guaranteed turnaround is describing something they cannot deliver — the honest approach is starting early and building in parallel.
Why do registrations get rejected?
Most commonly a mismatch between the submitted business details and public records, or a campaign use case described inaccurately — marketing content registered under a transactional use case, for instance. Sample messages that do not resemble what you will actually send are another frequent cause.
Do I need this if I only send appointment reminders?
Yes. The requirement applies to application-to-person messaging generally, not only to marketing. Transactional messages such as reminders and confirmations still need a registered campaign, though they are classified differently to promotional traffic.
What happens if I send without registering?
Messages are filtered or blocked, and the failure is often partial and silent — some deliver, some do not, with no clear error. Businesses typically discover it through rising no-show rates rather than through an alert.
Does this apply outside the US?
No. A2P 10DLC is a US carrier requirement. Other markets have their own regimes — the UAE requires sender ID registration with each operator, for example — but there is no equivalent process in the UK or Australia.

Make sure the messages you automate actually arrive
Automated messages fail to deliver most often because the sending domain is not authenticated with SPF, DKIM and DMARC records, because a new sending domain or number was used at high volume without warm-up, because sender reputation has been damaged by complaints, or because required carrier registration was never completed.
GoHighLevel setup, configured around how you actually sell
GoHighLevel setup is the initial configuration of an account: creating pipelines and stages, custom fields, calendars and booking rules, core workflows, forms and funnels, connecting phone numbers and email domains, completing messaging compliance registration, and integrating the platform with the other tools a business already uses.
Everything GoHighLevel can run without you
GoHighLevel can automate lead capture from forms, calls, ads and chat; contact creation and pipeline movement; SMS, email and WhatsApp follow-up sequences; appointment booking, confirmation and reminders; missed-call text-back; review requests; reactivation campaigns; internal notifications; and reporting.
Workflows that hold up when reality gets messy
A GoHighLevel workflow is a trigger followed by a series of conditional actions. A trigger such as a form submission or inbound call starts it, then branching logic decides what happens — sending SMS or email, waiting, assigning tasks, updating pipeline stages, booking appointments or calling external systems via webhook.
Connect your stack so data lives in one place
GoHighLevel integrates natively with Google and Microsoft calendars, Stripe, Meta and Google Ads, and common messaging platforms. Anything else connects through Make, n8n or Zapier, or through direct API and webhook work where no connector exists for the system involved.
Extend GoHighLevel past what the interface allows
The GoHighLevel API allows programmatic access to contacts, opportunities, calendars, conversations and workflows. It supports operations the interface does not — bulk data manipulation, custom application logic, external systems reading and writing CRM data directly, and receiving webhooks on platform events.
